Great Work for Sensei Alwyn Heath

WKGB Member's Good work Championing Disability in Karate

Below a letter received recently complimenting the work done with disability students with one of the WKGB instructors.

Alwyn Heath, a WKGB board member, has been working with disability students for over 30 years. One of his most promising SEN students - Darlene Foster, has realised her dream by being selected Wales for the forthcoming WKF World Karate championships in Bremen next month. This is the latest in a long line of honours that Darlene has achieved over the 13 years she has been training under Alwyn's direction. WKGB Welsh Champion and several medals, BKF British medallist, South Wales Echo Community Sports Personality of the year to name a few of her honours. This latest letter confirms the dedication and commitment that Alwyn, with WKGB support, achieved giving Disability a prominent platform in the Karate world. The WKGB has been instrumental in developing disability opportunities in Karate throughout Wales and influencing the BKF to do the same. Keep up the good work!!!

Afternoon Shelley
I hope all is well with you.
Thought I'd send a bit of information over about the work Alwyn did in the 3 SEN Schools in the Vale.
Alwyn did weekly sessions at Ysgol Erw'r Delyn, he had around 10 pupils each week from October 2013 until July 2014. He taught Karate to pupils with varying impairments consisting of LD, Autism, PD Ambulant and Wheelchair users. The groups were mixed as the idea of the groups is to mix the pupils in with each other as they are all joining together to become one school in two weeks time.
The pupils came from Ashgrove School (Autistic School), Ysgol Erw'r Delyn (pupils with Physical Disabilities) and Ysgol Maes Dyfan (pupils with Learning Disabilities).
They are now joining to form a new school called Ysgol Y Deri.
Not sure how useful this information is but the staff and pupils really enjoyed his sessions, I had very good feedback from them.
Kind Regards
